As places of creation and leisure, the thermal towns welcomed composers and musicians, and built concert halls, theatres and opera halls in which they could play or direct their creations: Clara Schumann, Brahms and Berlioz in Baden-Baden, Verdi in Montecatini Terme, Stravinsky and Roger Désormière  in Vichy, Meyerbeer and Vieuxtemps in Spa, and so on. However, these musicians from the past remain in the contemporary imagination thanks to the many festivals still held there and to the new generations of young ensembles and singers who perform at the Francofolies, the Sziget Festival in Budapest and the Sancy Snow Jazz Festival.
